Desktop Explorer passwords

Desktop Explorer Passwords

Desktop Explorer passwords list: Fortuna, Elephas, Maxine/m4x1mus clues, and where each code is used. Searchable Steam cheat sheet — verified July 2026.

Named folder locks and password list.

Desktop Explorer passwords list

This Desktop Explorer passwords database lists named folder locks players search for mid-run — Fortuna, Inanna, Elephas, Salve, Portonus, MMTT, Kassandra, Rubicon, Guppy, and Temple lockbox codes. Spoiler level is high: use Ctrl/Cmd+F for one entry instead of reading top to bottom.

Desktop Explorer (Recurring Dream) never ships Roblox-style promo codes. Every password below comes from in-OS clues (text endings, ASCII art, Source, Properties, Color Lens). For step-by-step gates see the walkthrough and puzzle pages. Verified July 24, 2026 · Steam · Discord.

Desktop Explorer passwords — Halibut Puzzles 0–10

Early Halibut locks are the highest-volume Desktop Explorer password searches. Each row links to a dedicated solution when the clue is multi-step.

OpenMe and Puzzle 1–3

Guppy opens OpenMe before the installer. fortuna ends LostOnTheShore.stp. Inanna sits at the bottom of long_scroll.npg. Elephas appears only after Word Wrap + resize on wide_papyrus_strip.npg — full steps on Puzzle 3.

Puzzles 4–7

Salve hides in detective_memories.stp Source (Puzzle 4). Portonus appears after renaming key.err → .img (Puzzle 5). MMTT is the Author field on etched_walls.img (Puzzle 6). Kassandra lives in engraved_warning.npg after enabling Hidden Files.

Puzzles 8–10

Rubicon is readable on stalagmite_formation.img and unlocks the hidden Puzzle9_Altar path (Puzzle 9). Puzzle 10 uses Color Lens security answers (Crocodile / 14 / Fire / Walleye) instead of a single folder string — see Puzzle 10.

Temple, Maxine, and later Desktop Explorer passwords

After the Puzzle 10 crash, Temple and Profile switches add lockboxes that reuse the same OS literacy.

Hourglass Blue_lockbox

Thoth path hourglass uses poem phrases + Clock + Color Lens Blue. Multiply matched pairs and sum for the lockbox code (verified pair product 66; if rejected try 67 — community sources disagree on one multiplier). Full math: hourglass puzzle.

Maxine / Admin named locks

m4x1mus (Maxine) and Admin sections introduce additional folder passwords and maze / store codes. When a Steam thread says “Maxine password,” cross-check Profile context — it is rarely the early Halibut list. Log new finds here mentally or in Chronolog notes; we expand rows as P1 pages land.

Case sensitivity

Most early locks accept the casing shown in clues (fortuna often lowercase in text; Elephas / Portonus / Kassandra / Rubicon title-style). If entry fails, retry exact spelling from the clue file before assuming a bug.

How to find Desktop Explorer passwords without a list

Prefer these scans before opening spoilers — they cover ~90% of early locks.

  • Do01Read the last line / bold phrases of .stp and .npg files
  • Do02Enable Word Wrap and resize notepads for ASCII art
  • Do03View → Source on story text pads
  • Do04Properties → Author on .img files
  • Do05View → Hidden Files when notes mention “reveal”
  • Do06Backtrack earlier Puzzle folders after mid-game events
  • Do07Use Color Lens filters on murals before guessing Q&A

Desktop Explorer passwords players actually search

Search logs skew toward Desktop Explorer passwords, Puzzle 3 Elephas, Maxine password, and hourglass numbers. Use the jump list below instead of rereading Halibut 0–10.

Elephas / Portonus / Salve cluster

These three mid-Halibut locks dominate “password not working” threads. Confirm you used the intended mechanic (resize / rename / Source) before assuming a typo — see Puzzle 3, Puzzle 5, Puzzle 4.

Rubicon and Puzzle 9 confusion

Rubicon opens the Altar folder; it is not the stone-stack “password.” Players searching Desktop Explorer password 9 usually need the Puzzle 9 reach steps, not a new string.

Hourglass numeric codes

Temple players paste wrong products into Blue_lockbox. Recheck Clock hour × hourglass digit pairs on the hourglass page before resetting Temple progress.

Logging your own finds

Keep a Notepage inside the game for Profile-specific locks. This wiki list prioritizes Halibut + hourglass; Maxine/Admin rows expand as P1 pages publish.

Keeping a personal Desktop Explorer passwords log

Even with this Desktop Explorer passwords wiki, a personal Notepage inside the game beats alt-tabbing for every Temple lockbox.

Copy only the locks you have earned. Pasting the entire Halibut table into chat is how Discord spoiler channels get flooded.

When a Steam thread says a password “stopped working,” compare casing, Profile, and whether you are on the correct folder — Elephas will never open Blue_lockbox.

Halibut quick paste block

Guppy · fortuna · Inanna · Elephas · Salve · Portonus · MMTT · Kassandra · Rubicon — then Color Lens Q&A for Puzzle 10 instead of a single string.

Temple numeric locks

Hourglass products belong on the hourglass page. Do not mix them into early Halibut folders.

Maxine caution

“Maxine password” search intent usually means a m4x1mus-specific lock. Confirm the folder title before reusing Halibut codes.

Share carefully

If you post on Discord, spoiler-tag the string and name the folder. Link this passwords page for the full table.

Closing notes

Treat this Desktop Explorer passwords page as a living checklist: tick Halibut rows first, then Temple numbers, then Profile-specific finds.

When friends ask for “the password,” make them name the folder — Fortuna and Portonus solve different gates.

Pair this list with the walkthrough Acts so you never apply a Temple code on an early Puzzle folder.

Still missing a Maxine or Admin string? Log it on a Notepage and check Discord spoiler channels after you exhaust OS menus.
